Lake Eola's swans are being rehomed ahead of the park's construction
noted Aug 31, 2026
The City of Orlando began rehoming Lake Eola's swan flock in May, after a Florida Fish and Wildlife review and an avian-flu outbreak earlier in 2026 that killed 37 birds, including 29 mute swans. Officials concluded that meeting care requirements "within an active urban park, especially one preparing for major construction" would be increasingly difficult — pausing a swan tradition on the lake that dates back roughly a century.
