A $750 million ask toward a $1.4 billion master plan

The Dr. Phillips Center asked Orange County’s tourism-tax task force for $750 million in TDT funds to start its $1.4 billion expansion — a master plan of theater expansions, additional parking, and an outdoor amphitheater the center says could host 1,000 free community events a year. “It’s a forever project,” president Kathy Ramsberger told the panel in early August 2026. On August 11 the task force backed the master plan among the twelve proposals it advanced — but pointedly declined to recommend a funding amount, leaving that to the County Commission.
