Happened Aug 27, 2026 · noted Aug 28, 2026
Orange County Mosquito Control issued a West Nile virus advisory effective Aug. 27 after sentinel chickens placed in coops around the county tested positive. Mosquito Control Manager Steve Harrison said rainfall is running eight inches below normal in what is the tenth-driest year in 132 years of records, and that the virus circulates year-round here regardless of drought. The advisory is expected to remain in effect through the end of the calendar year.
