Orlando Dreamers strike out on $975M tourist-tax ask — but the MLB dream isn't dead
noted Aug 27, 2026
The Dreamers came to Orange County in early August with fresh Populous renderings of a domed, 45,000-seat ballpark on the I-Drive corridor and a $975 million tourist-tax request — and the county's TDT task force said not yet, leaving the stadium off its list of 12 recommended projects. County commissioners unanimously accepted that report this week, though Mayor Jerry Demings noted final funding details are still to be worked out. The group says it has more than $2 billion in private backing lined up, with MLB expected to start reviewing expansion bids in 2027 — so this one's on the bench, not out of the game.
