The Dome premiered June 1 with 8K lasers and 30,000 watts
Happened Jun 1, 2026 · noted Sep 1, 2026
Orlando Science Center’s domed theater reopened June 1, 2026 as The Dome by Dr. Phillips Charities, after a complete overhaul: eight Christie Griffyn projectors delivering 8K laser imagery onto a near-seamless NanoSeam screen of 419 panels, a 7.1 surround system pushing more than 30,000 watts, and 315 oversized seats with sightlines cleared by removing the old central projection structure. For nearly 30 years the dome had run as one of the last U.S. museum theaters showing analog film, drawing roughly four million visitors; the new room carries planetarium shows, giant-screen films, full-dome features and laser light shows, funded through the Unlock Science Campaign with Dr. Phillips Charities, Orange County Arts and Cultural Affairs, the Bert W. Martin Foundation and The Magruder Foundation.
