  Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island are gone — closed for good July 7, 2025

  The Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Belle Riverboat closed permanently on July 7, 2025, ending nearly five decades of the waterway at the back of Frontierland. The land is becoming Piston Peak National Park, a Cars-themed area with Rocky Mountain-style scenery, and Disney has said homages to Tom Sawyer Island will be worked into the new land.

  Piston Peak's two rides now have names: Cars Ridge Run Rally and Miss Fritter's Daredevil Spin-Along

  Disney named the two attractions coming to Piston Peak National Park at D23 in August: Cars Ridge Run Rally, an off-road race through geyser fields and up a snowy mountaintop ending near a geyser called Old Tankfull, and Miss Fritter's Daredevil Spin-Along, a demolition-derby spinner anchored by a school-bus-sized Miss Fritter animatronic. Disney calls the Frontierland project the largest expansion in Magic Kingdom history. No opening date has been announced.

  Villains Land's anchors: a Maleficent coaster and a dark ride through the Evil Queen's catacombs

  Disney detailed the two anchor attractions for Villains Land in August: a Maleficent roller coaster its Imagineers say includes elements "they've never attempted before on similar attractions," and a Magic Mirror-hosted dark ride through the catacombs beneath the Evil Queen's palace. The land — pitched at a scale Disney compares to Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, with its own shops and dining — still has no announced opening timeline.
