Home Depot U.S.A. has filed a $2.35 million performance bond with Polk County covering roads, drainage and other infrastructure for its planned store at the northeast corner of U.S. 27 and Davenport Boulevard. The bond, backed by Liberty Mutual Insurance Co., requires the work to be finished by May 29, 2027, with extensions possible from the county. Davenport's population grew from 9,043 residents in 2020 to an estimated 18,110 in 2025.

Gov. Ron DeSantis signed the state budget on June 29, 2026, releasing the remaining roughly $7.6 million for construction of Polk State College's Haines City-Davenport campus on U.S. 27. The roughly $51 million, 75,000-square-foot building sits on 7.8 acres the college bought in 2009 and follows $13.2 million appropriated in 2022 and $8.1 million in 2024, plus $3 million from the Barnett family. The college says the campus is on track to open for the Spring 2027 semester and will house most of its health sciences programs.

Davenport, on our Polk County map Whataburger files plans for 24/7 Davenport location in Walmart-anchored center on US 27
Whataburger is moving through Polk County review for a 3,000+ sq ft restaurant at US 27 and Holly Hill Grove Road 2, just north of Ridgewood Lakes. It would sit on an outparcel of a 56-acre shopping center that also includes a new Walmart Supercenter and Sam's Club. Developers held a pre-application meeting with the county July 22 and were cleared for formal site plan review; no opening date yet.
