Clermont's Planning & Zoning Commission voted 4-1 on August 4 to advance the West End Plaza expansion at West Minneola Avenue and 8th Street: four three-story buildings with 16 one-bedroom rentals over more than 5,600 square feet of ground-floor retail and restaurant space, next to the existing 7,400-square-foot plaza building, which stays. The project heads to City Council next — it is not yet approved.

The 336-unit Citrus Tower Apartments — 31 acres just southeast of the Florida Citrus Tower, built in 2007 — changed hands in August, with Blackstone Real Estate selling to Philadelphia-based PRG Real Estate for $77.25 million, about $229,910 per unit. The new owner plans renovations on roughly 52 units, pool repairs and a new playground.

A special city committee has begun weighing two downtown sites for a parking garage: one behind City Hall, the other near Mineola Avenue and Seventh Street, where surface parking already exists. Clermont's most recent parking study, from 2024, counted roughly 1,100 downtown spaces, which fill during First Friday and other events. An architect will work up designs, and the committee is set to present its recommendation to city leaders on Sept. 22; no size or space count has been decided.

Atlanta-based Fourth Time Partners secured a $21.9 million construction loan from Ameris Bank in late July for a micro-hospital in the Hammock Ridge Commons center, between U.S. 27 and Hammock Ridge Road. The roughly 28,000-square-foot, single-story building is planned for Houston operator Nutex Health with emergency and inpatient services, eight inpatient beds, an operating room, and MRI, CT and X-ray imaging. It is planned to run 24 hours a day, with about 10 staff per shift.

The City of Clermont's annual Sips & Salsa Festival runs 5 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, September 19 at Waterfront Park, 330 3rd St. The city announced the date August 24; details are at clermontfl.gov/sips. Separately, Champions Splash Park remains open free on weekends, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., through November 22.

FDOT's $5.3 million resurfacing of about 2.6 miles of U.S. 27 from north of S.R. 50 to C.R. 561A/Southern Breeze Drive is now listed in its construction phase, with work running fall 2026 through an estimated summer 2028 completion. The project also upgrades sidewalk ramps to ADA standards and refreshes signage and markings. Lane closures are permitted 8:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., though none are currently scheduled, and drivers should expect temporary uneven pavement as asphalt layers go down.
