Orange County gave the project its final OK in October 2024

Despite objections, Orange County granted final approval on October 9, 2024 for Disney’s first affordable housing project, in Horizon West — a development touted as a long-sought contribution to the housing shortage from one of the entertainment giants that power the Central Florida economy.

1,400 units, 1,000 of them affordable: Disney’s housing plan with Michaels

The Michaels Organization is Disney’s private-sector development partner for the attainable housing development in Central Florida, and will also serve as its property manager. Plans call for a mixed-income community of 1,400 units, with 1,000 reserved as affordable. Walt Disney World runs a dedicated page tracking the development as it moves forward.
